Volunteer Job Descriptions


Office Aid: An office aid's responsibiliiteis consist of assisting the administrative staff in answering the telephone, making photocopies, taking messages, maintaining cleanliness of office space, greeting patrons who come into the office, running errands, and helping office staff in their individual departments.

Court Advocate: Court advocate are responsible for accompanying clients either to court, for the court advocate position, during restraining order hearings or other intimidating court procedures.  This advocate would not be responsible for providing legal assistance or knowledge of laws, but would be expected to provide comfort and strength for the victim simply by being there and sticking by her.

Thrift Store: These volunteers would assist the thrift store manager in organizing new donations, steam claining garments, merchandising and assisting in placing new articles out on the floor for sale.  These volunteers might also help to straighten racks, make sign, put prices on articles, and use the cash register.

Handy Person: The thrift store, shelter, and administrative office are always in need of a person who is able to contribute labor time to aid us in maintenance of our facilities. A handy person may assist in changing light bulbs that requires a ladder to change, minor carpentry, painting, minor repairs, etc.

Smile All volunteers are encouraged to use their talents and gifts when they are volunteering!  We would like it if you would keep us informed of your preferences and if they change, please feel free to ask that you be utilized in a different manner.  You can request to be cross trained for any new jobs at any time!  We want your experience as a volunteer at the Onslow Women's Center to be both rewarding and enlightening.
